Cox's Bazar Travel Guide 2026: Flights, Train, Hotels & Costs for Bangladeshi Travelers

Checked on 16 October 2026: what is actually operating between Dhaka and Cox's Bazar right now — nonstop flights, the new Mahanagar Express, buses, where to stay, and what a trip costs.
Who this guide is for: Families and solo travellers leaving Dhaka or Chattogram who want a current, verifiable plan for reaching Cox's Bazar, choosing where to stay and building a realistic BDT budget — and who also want to know exactly what is operating right now, including the airport's international status.
Quick Answer As of 16 October 2026, Cox's Bazar is a working domestic trip with three routes: non-stop flights from Dhaka (about an hour in the air), the Dohazari–Cox's Bazar railway line, and overnight road coaches. NOVOAIR's own booking engine showed three non-stop Dhaka departures a day at 1 hour 5 minutes block time on an ATR 72, with one-way fares from BDT 5,349 for 13 to 17 November 2026 dates [5]. Bangladesh Railway extended the Mahanagar Express to Cox's Bazar from 26 October 2026, joining the trains that already run the corridor [8]. International flights are not operating: CAAB's NOTAM A0325/26 suspends international movements to and from Cox's Bazar until scheduled international services start [2].
1. Cox's Bazar Airport Status in 2026: International Flights Still Suspended Cox's Bazar Airport (IATA CXB, ICAO VGCB) was declared an international airport in CAAB's AIP Supplement 06/25, published 7 August 2025 and effective 2 October 2025. The supplement records customs, immigration, health and quarantine services at the field, and names Biman Bangladesh Airlines as the ground-handling coordinator [1].
A designation is not permission to fly international schedules. In CAAB's October 2026 NOTAM Summary, NOTAM A0325/26 — issued 21 September 2026 and replacing A0189/26 — states that movement of international scheduled and non-scheduled flights to and from Cox's Bazar Airport remains suspended, and that the airport will not be used for international non-scheduled, emergency or diversion flights until international scheduled flight movements start. The summary lists the notice through 31 October 2026 [2].
The airport itself is being upgraded. The new international passenger terminal began trial operations on 28 September 2026 while serving domestic passengers, and CAAB said it was ready to handle international flights [4].
What this means if you are travelling from Bangladesh: - Domestic flights into Cox's Bazar are unaffected. That is the route this guide covers. - Do not buy an international itinerary that arrives at Cox's Bazar. The NOTAM is the controlling document, and it says international movements are suspended. - Recheck CAAB's NOTAM page close to your travel date. The notice is listed only to 31 October 2026, so it may be amended, replaced or extended [2][3].
2. Getting There by Air You have three real options — flight, train or bus — and the right one depends on your budget, how much time you have and who is travelling with you. The air leg is the fastest and the easiest.
NOVOAIR's official booking engine, checked on 16 October 2026, showed three non-stop Dhaka (DAC) to Cox's Bazar (CXB) departures: VQ-921 at 07:15 arriving 08:20, VQ-923 at 10:30 arriving 11:35, and VQ-935 at 19:25 arriving 20:30. Each was listed at 1 hour 5 minutes block time on an ATR 72 [5]. Treat those as a snapshot, not a schedule: airlines reissue timings seasonally and they change.
On fares, the same search — one adult, one way, departing between 13 and 17 November 2026 — displayed fare bands from BDT 5,349 up to BDT 12,050 [5]. This is a search result, not a quote: the booking was not carried through to checkout, so baggage, seat and payment fees are not included in that number.
Who flies the route: Biman Bangladesh Airlines' own booking site lists Cox's Bazar as a selectable destination alongside Dhaka and Chattogram [6]. A CAAB instruction in September 2026, reported at the time, named the station managers of Biman, US-Bangla, NOVOAIR and Air Astra for the move of domestic operations into the new terminal, which is how the four-carrier picture was confirmed [7]. We opened the Biman and NOVOAIR booking engines directly; check each carrier's own site for your exact date before you commit.
Practical notes for the flight: - For December to February, and for the Eid and New Year breaks, book domestic seats early — the peak weeks sell out first and last-minute fares are the worst on the calendar. Three to four weeks ahead is a reasonable planning window. - Compare the checkout total, not the headline fare. - If you travel in the monsoon months, keep the first and last day of the trip flexible; a cancelled short-haul flight can cost you a night in Chattogram or Dhaka.

3. Getting There by Train The Dohazari–Cox's Bazar rail line was inaugurated on 11 November 2023: 102 km from Dohazari through Ramu to Cox's Bazar, built at a cost of Tk 18,034.47 crore with Asian Development Bank financing, and opened to passengers on 1 December 2023 [10]. Since then the train has become the default choice for families who dislike long coach rides: it takes longer than a flight and costs far less, and the last stretch along the hills and river mouths is its own reward.
Currently two pairs of trains operate between Dhaka and Cox's Bazar, with another two pairs on the Chattogram–Cox's Bazar leg [8]. From 26 October 2026 the Mahanagar Express — previously a Dhaka–Chattogram service — is extended to Cox's Bazar, and a second outlet reported the same timings [8][9]. The reported schedule: leave Kamalapur in Dhaka at 20:30, reach Chattogram at 02:40 and Cox's Bazar at 06:00; the return leaves Cox's Bazar at 09:00, reaches Chattogram at 12:10 and Dhaka at 18:30. The train is out of service on Sundays, runs 16 coaches with seating capacity raised from 700 to 736, and no longer stops at Kumira, though it still calls at Airport, Narsingdi, Bhairab Bazar, Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria, Akhaura, Kasba, Cumilla, Laksam, Nangalkot and Feni [8][9]. The platform master quoted Dhaka–Cox's Bazar fares at Tk 685 to Tk 1,570, and Cox's Bazar to Chattogram at Tk 240 to Tk 547 [8][9].
Buy the ticket from the official channel. Bangladesh Railway sells tickets only through its e-ticket portal, the Rail Sheba app and approved counters, and the portal warns that tickets bought from any other website, app or Facebook page are not valid [11]. Bookings open ten days in advance, and the portal accepts bKASH, Nagad, Rocket, Upay and Tap as well as debit and credit cards [11]. Have your NID and OTP ready, because the portal asks for both [11]. And be quick when sales open: passengers told reporters that tickets on the new service often sell out within minutes of sales opening, and there were complaints about scalping [8].
Treat the Sunday off day and the fare band as reported rather than guaranteed: they are the figures carried in reporting dated 16 October 2026, and the older Dhaka–Cox's Bazar pairs run on different days. Check the portal for your date before you build a plan around them [8][11].
4. Getting There by Road Overnight coaches still connect Dhaka and Cox's Bazar, with AC, sleeper and non-AC options that leave in the evening and arrive in the morning — the cheapest and most widely available option, and the easiest one to split between a large group or a big family. Green Line's own e-ticketing site lists Dhaka to Cox's Bazar as a bookable route and keeps a city counter in Cox's Bazar, so the journey can be arranged without a third-party reseller [12]. Other operators run the same corridor from their own counters and their own online search.
Expect the timing to move. Peak-season weekends and Eid breaks put the Dhaka–Chattogram corridor under heavy traffic, and a night coach can arrive later than planned.
We did not capture a dated operator quote for a specific date, so this guide does not print a bus fare. Prices differ by operator, coach type and season, and only the operator's own counter or website price applies to your booking — for the return leg as well. Inside Cox's Bazar, local transport runs on metered taxis and auto-rickshaws; agree the meter reading or the fare before you set off.
5. Where to Stay: Kolatoli, Laboni, Inani and Himchari The Consulate General of Bangladesh in Dubai describes Cox's Bazar as the world's longest natural sea beach, stretching over 120 kilometres along the Bay of Bengal, with accommodation ranging from luxury resorts to budget guesthouses [13]. The practical split: - Laboni: the town-side beach, called the bustling heart of Cox's Bazar, where the hotels, restaurants and market sit within walking distance [13]. - Inani: the quieter northern stretch, known for clear water and coral rocks [13]. - Himchari: Himchari National Park, with green hills and waterfalls — a day trip rather than a place to stay [13]. - The Marine Drive towards Teknaf: the coastal road that links the beach sections [13].
Pick the zone before you pick a star rating, because Cox's Bazar is no longer a small beach town. bdnews24.com reports official records showing nearly 600 registered hotels, motels and resorts, and the Cox's Bazar Hotel & Guest House Owners' Association counting 538 of them inside the roughly 3-square-kilometre Kolatoli area alone [16].
Three tiers that hold up in practice: - Budget tier: guesthouses and small hotels a block or two inland from the main beach road. You will not get a sea view, but the water is a short walk away and the rate is lower. - Mid-range tier: established properties on or right beside the main road in Kolatoli and Laboni. For a two- or three-night family trip these are the most convenient — food, autos and the beach all on foot. - Premium and resort tier: Inani and Himchari-side resorts, and the beachfront hotels on Kolatoli, for couples and travellers who want the town noise kept at a distance.
We do not print a nightly rate in this guide, because room prices move with season, property and booking date, and a number written into an article goes stale within weeks. Check the live listing for each property, and confirm the final rate, the cancellation terms and any extra charges on the property's own page before you pay. December to February and the Eid breaks are when demand for rooms is highest, so book early.

6. What a Cox's Bazar Trip Actually Costs This is a domestic trip: there is no visa to buy, no passport check and no foreign exchange to arrange. The money goes to three lines — the journey there and back, where you sleep, and food. Change the transport mode and the hotel zone and the same trip can cost half as much or double.
- The journey there and back. The only fares we could verify on a dated basis are domestic ones: NOVOAIR's one-way DAC–CXB search from BDT 5,349 for 13 to 17 November 2026 dates, and the reported Tk 685 to Tk 1,570 train range for the Mahanagar Express extension from 26 October 2026 [5][8]. Return legs are priced separately by each operator, and we did not verify a return fare on the same dated basis, so build the return from the operator's own quote. - Where you sleep. This is the line that varies most between two travellers on the same dates. Price it per property, per night, for your actual dates, and read the cancellation terms. - Food and local transport. Restaurants in the town and along the beach price their menus on the board, and seafood prices follow what is fresh that day. Local transport is by metered taxi and auto-rickshaw.
Worth knowing before you set a budget: the same bdnews24.com report records Bangladeshi visitors complaining about crowding, facilities and price on the Cox's Bazar beach strip, with some saying a foreign beach would be better value [16]. On this trip the zone you choose and how early you book usually matter more than the number of nights.
Build the total in four steps: - Search your exact dates in each carrier's booking engine and note the checkout total for the return leg. - Price your stay per property per night on the live hotel listing, and check the cancellation terms. - Add a daily allowance for food, local transport, and the entry or activity charges that the property or the operator lists. - Keep a margin in the monsoon months, where a cancelled flight or a rough sea can move your plans by a day.
We are deliberately not printing a "3-day trip costs X" figure. We could not verify hotel rates, meal prices or return fares on one common dated basis, and a total built from mixed dates is worse than no total at all.
7. When to Go: October to March, and the Monsoon Question The Consulate General of Bangladesh in Dubai names November to March as the best time to visit, when the weather is most pleasant [13]. Domestic demand follows the same calendar: bdnews24.com, quoting the Cox's Bazar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, puts peak-season visits at 2 to 2.5 million Bangladeshis [16]. For seasonal rainfall detail, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department's climate portal is the reference to check [14].
October is a transition month: the monsoon has not always finished, so a late-October trip should carry a wet-weather plan, and a late low-pressure system can still interrupt it. If you want the most reliable sun, start from November [13][15].
June to September is the monsoon, the off-season: rain is common, the sea is rougher, and far fewer travellers book — that is when rooms are easiest to get and when properties are most willing to negotiate, although we have not verified any specific rate cut [13][15]. For anyone happy watching the sea from a hotel verandah, the off-season has its own appeal.
Two habits before you move. Check the day-before forecast on the BMD portal, which carries Cox's Bazar as a district forecast under Chattogram and publishes marine warnings and a cyclone page [15]. And if you are travelling in the good season, book the rooms and the seats early — December to February plus the Eid breaks are the highest-demand weeks [16].
8. Coming from Kathmandu or Nepal? This guide is written for departures inside Bangladesh. If your trip starts in Nepal, the shape of it changes — the international leg, the connection through Dhaka, entry formalities and where each half gets booked. Those belong to our dedicated Kathmandu to Cox's Bazar guide, and that page owns the current status of the Kathmandu–Cox's Bazar route, so read it for anything about international scheduling and come back here for the domestic leg, the stay and the budget.

9. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I fly into Cox's Bazar on an international route right now?
No international service is operating. CAAB's NOTAM A0325/26 suspends international scheduled and non-scheduled movements to and from Cox's Bazar until scheduled international services start, and the notice is listed through 31 October 2026 [2]. Cox's Bazar was declared an international airport effective 2 October 2025, and its new international terminal began trial domestic operations on 28 September 2026, but neither changes the NOTAM [1][4]. Domestic flights, trains and buses are unaffected.
What is the fastest way to get from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar?
The flight, by a wide margin. NOVOAIR's booking engine listed all three non-stop Dhaka–Cox's Bazar services at 1 hour 5 minutes block time on an ATR 72 when we checked on 16 October 2026 [5]. The train and the night coach take much longer, but on the fares we could verify they cost a good deal less [5][8]. Schedules change, so confirm the timing on the carrier's own site for your date.
Is there a direct train from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar?
Yes. The 102 km Dohazari–Cox's Bazar line has carried passengers since 1 December 2023, two pairs of trains currently run the route, and from 26 October 2026 the Mahanagar Express is extended to Cox's Bazar, leaving Dhaka at 20:30 and arriving at 06:00 [8][9][10]. It is an overnight journey, so your first morning on the beach starts early.
What are the best months to visit for good weather?
November to March, the window the Consulate General's travel guidance names as the most pleasant [13]. October is usable but transitional, with a residual risk of late rain or a low-pressure system, so plan from November if certainty matters to you [13][15]. Whatever month you pick, check the BMD district forecast and any marine warning one or two days before you leave [15].
Do flight and hotel prices really go up in the winter peak?
Demand certainly does, and demand is what moves these prices: December to February and the Eid breaks are when the beach town absorbs its millions of visitors and when domestic air seats and rail tickets clear fastest [8][16]. We do not publish a "cheapest month" figure, because we could not verify hotel rates on a dated basis. What we can show you is the spread we did verify: NOVOAIR's one-way fares from BDT 5,349 for 13 to 17 November 2026 dates, against the reported Tk 685 to Tk 1,570 rail band [5][8]. Compare live rates for your own dates and book the peak weeks early.
